The "Legacy" Solution Problem

Why are Companies Migrating to ZL Technologies from Legacy Archiving Solutions?

The History of Legacy Archiving Solutions

Most of the major solutions in the marketplace were designed in the early 90's for small to medium sized enterprises (from 500 to 1,000 mailboxes), using assumptions and metrics for email and file data of that era.

Since then the Web became mainstream, the current Internet evolved, and the volume of email, IM, and file data exploded.

Unfortunately, the kernel and architectures of these legacy systems have remained largely the same, occasionally rigging new third party technologies to compensate for missing functionalities and existing limitations. Ultimately, the performance and scalability of these architectures, through no fault of their own, remain chained to early 90's assumptions and struggle with today's data volumes.

The ZL Difference

ZL Technologies' architecture was designed for an entirely different type of customer: large service providers.

At minimum mailbox counts of 500,000 mailboxes, service provider requirements for a single deployment with a single, centralised repository are multiple orders of magnitude higher than the typical enterprise.

These carrier-sized accounts require an entirely different type of architectural design to address a different class of scalability requirement. Moreover, due to the range of customers and required services, the architecture also needed to be highly flexible, easily managed, and centrally deployed.

For these large scale customers and complex environments, the ZL Platform was created to provide an open architecture that focused on scalability and flexibility at its core, supporting email and file management, security, compliance, and discovery. This has enabled our solutions to succeed in those areas where legacy products have generally struggled the most.

Legacy Archiving Solutions Today

Over 75% of legacy email archiving solutions fail to deliver on expectations.. If you are using a legacy email archiving solution, here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. How long does your typical email search take? is it minutes, hours, days - or seconds?
  1. Did you know you are using up to two to ten times more storage for your email than needed, and don't even know it?
  1. Did you know your email archive could go down at any time, and it might take days before you could use it again? In the mean time, you are left non-compliant.
  1. Did you know you could cut your archive storage in half by storing in standard mail format?
  1. Did you know that only a single server stands between your data and catastrophe?
  1. Do you know exactly where your email is? Can you get ready support for every component of your email archive?
  1. Did you know if you bought both Mailbox Management and Discovery that you'll store the same data twice?
  1. Did you know that your archive data is held hostage by your archival solution?
  1. Did you know your archive cannot search encrypted email, but that encryption is a requirement for many new data privacy regulations?

If your answer to two or more of the above questions is "no", call us. We can help.

ZL Technologies has helped companies migrate from almost all the legacy archive solutions. More than 70% of our valued customers are replacement customers.

ZL has never been competitively replaced.
